vRealize Operations Management Pack for VMware Cloud Director

vRealize Operations Management Pack for VMware Cloud Director is a vRealize Operations (vROps) management pack created exclusively for VMware Cloud Director (VCD). This management pack monitors the health of supported VMware Cloud Director entities and delivers smart alerts for monitored Provider VMware Cloud Director resources to provide early warnings. It also aids in capacity planning. It can monitor and meter CPU, Memory, Storage, NSX-V Backed Cloud Director, and NSX-T Backed Cloud Director statistics. It includes a number of out-of-the-box reports and dashboards to assist administrators in meeting their use case.

Installation

  1. Check the version of vROPS installed e.g 8/.6 or 8.10
  2. Go to https://marketplace.cloud.vmware.com and sign in with your VMware Account.
  3. Search for vRealize Operations Management Pack for VMware Cloud Director "version" e.g. vRealize Operations Management Pack for VMware Cloud Director 8.6.1/8.10.2
  4. Download the pack. It will download a .pak file. e.g vmware-vcd-mp-8-6-1-19248529-pak.pak
  5. Save the PAK file to a temporary folder on your local system.
  6. Log in to the vRealize Operations user interface with administrator privileges.
  7. From the left menu, click Data Sources > Integrations, and then click the Repository
  8. On the Repository tab, click Add.
  9. Browse to locate the temporary folder and select the PAK file.
  10. Click Upload. The upload might take several minutes.
  11. Read and accept the EULA and click Next.
  12. Installation details appear in the window during the process.
  13. When the installation is complete, click Finish.

Configuration

By giving the VMware Cloud Director cell information, you set up vRealize Operations Management Pack for VMware Cloud Director. In vRealize Operations Manager, install an adapter instance and credentials to set up vRealize Operations Management Pack for VMware Cloud Director.

Check that you have selected the currency unit (€/$) in vRealize Operations via Global Settings. Administration>Global Configuration>Cost/Price>Currency

Steps:

  1. In the left pane of vRealize Operations Manager, click Data Sources > Integrations, and then click the Repository
  2. Select Management Pack for VMware Cloud Director and click the ADD ACCOUNT icon.
  3. Configure the instance settings (Name, Description) and create credentials e.g. "vrops-vcd".
  4. To add new credentials to access the management pack, click the plus sign and create a new credential (Cloud Director System Credentials).
  5. Make sure to add this user account in VMware Cloud Director with System admin privileges.

  6. Click VALIDATE CONNECTION to initiate the authentication request to the CSP authentication service

  7. Go to Administration > Collection Status, Verify that the adapter is configured and collecting data by viewing application-related data






After successfully integrating VMware Cloud Director with vRealize Operations, you may access the following vRealize Operations Manager features:

  • Dashboards
  • Metrics
  • Alerts definitions
  • Alerts
  • Reports

How to Downgrade a VIB/Driver in ESXi 7

  There are two methods to downgrade a VIB or a device driver in ESXi Host. 1.     Uninstall the current or upgraded driver > reboot the host > Install the downgrade driver OR 2.     You may also install the downgrade driver directly using esxcli software vib install command. This will remove the upgraded driver itself. Let's see how to perform downgrades of vib using both methods. You may decide which one you would like to choose. Error: "Datastore "XXX" conflicts with an existing datastore"

  PROBLEM Recently I tried to upgrade one of my ESXi hosts from version 6.7 to 7.0 using VMware Lifecycle Manager. The upgrade gets stuck at 47%. However, when I take the remote console using iLO, I see the ESXi is already upgraded. The LCM Events and logs show that vCenter is not able to connect to the host.  I tried to connect the Host manually and got the below error: Datastore "XXX" conflicts with an existing datastore in the datacenter that has the same URL "UUID", but it is backed by different physical storage. RESOLUTION 1.     Check if the all the vmhba are visible: Run this command to see all vmhba - esxcfg-scsidevs -a or esxcli storage core adapter list 2.     Check if the vmhba drivers are compatible. In my case smartpqi driver had to be upgraded to latest version.
